Therapy or coaching?

Some topics overlap. The purpose and kind of support are different.

Therapy

Clinical care to understand, process, and treat what is affecting your mental health.

  • Mental health symptoms and significant emotional distress
  • Clinical assessment and diagnosis where appropriate
  • Trauma processing and treatment planning
  • Psychiatric or psychological conditions
  • Deeper exploration of longstanding patterns

Explore coaching

Coaching is not psychotherapy and does not replace mental health treatment. It can complement therapeutic work for people who are ready to focus on specific goals, decisions, and next steps.

Is coaching a fit?

Coaching may be a fit if you have insight into what you want to change and are ready to focus on putting it into practice. That understanding might come from therapy or other meaningful personal work.

You might have a specific decision to make, a goal you keep putting off, or a skill you understand but find hard to use in daily life.

If you need support for mental health symptoms, significant emotional distress, or trauma processing, therapy may be the more appropriate service. Coaching does not substitute for needed clinical care.

What that can look like

You know where a boundary belongs.
Plan what to say, practice the conversation, and decide how to maintain it.
You have a career or educational goal.
Break it into manageable steps and create a plan for following through.
You understand a pattern you want to change.
Choose a specific daily behavior to practice and build a routine that supports it.

Start with a next step

If this sounds like the support you are looking for, get in touch about coaching. You do not need to share symptoms, trauma narratives, or other sensitive personal information in the inquiry form.

Ask about coaching

A clear scope of support

Coaching is a non-clinical service, separate from my psychotherapy practice. It does not establish a therapist-client relationship or include formal mental health assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapy, or treatment of trauma or other mental health conditions. It is not a substitute for mental health treatment or crisis services. If your needs fall outside the scope of coaching, we will discuss appropriate referrals.
